Video Description

Hi everyone!

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, today I want to talk about why I love this album so much and my first thoughts on the deluxe album, The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.

In this video, we discuss my favorite theme on The Life of a Showgirl, my thoughts on people’s initial response, the rollout of The Encore, the song “Cleveland,” and what this album means to me.

The Life of a Showgirl is a really important album to me, and I hope this video does a good job introducing why.

As always, make sure to let me know in the comments what you think about The Life of a Showgirl and The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.

But until then, make sure to have a wonderful day, and thank you so much for watching!

This is the most serious and most intellectual endeavor I have ever embarked upon as a content creator. The Life of a Showgirl by Taylor Swift is a very, very important album to me. And because of that, I've been really looking forward to today, which is the one-year anniversary of this album coming out.

But then Taylor Swift decided to release The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, and it has turned this fandom upside down. I've been thinking a lot over the last week about what it is I want to do with this video.

So, in today's video, we are going to discuss The Life of a Showgirl, the rollout of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, and why I love this album so much. We're going to talk a little bit about “Cleveland” and just what I think about that song. And then I'm going to give you guys my closing thoughts.

But first, hi everyone. I'm Joshua Miller, and welcome to my YouTube channel. I create videos on fashion, pop music, and Pokémon so that way you can live with style, confidence, and enthusiasm. And because style is my favorite subject, today we're going to be talking about The Life of a Showgirl by Taylor Swift, which, as of the day that I am filming this video, turns 1 year old.

So, without further ado, let's get to it.

The Life of a Showgirl is an album that I really, really, really love just because of its overall theme and an overarching theme that I feel a lot in this album: How do you keep going in the spotlight once you're already in it? And how do you figure out how to keep going when all of these eyes and all of this pressure are on you?

And I just find that to be a really endearing theme. And it's one that I really, really, really appreciate.

But when the album first came out, there was a lot of criticism surrounding it. People were really confused by songs like “Cancelled!” There was a lot of criticism around songs like “Wood,” um, or even “Actually Romantic,” and I don't think it was received, like, as positively as, like, folklore, for instance.

But I feel like that had kind of died down, and then came The Encore.

I already have videos about this, and I'll put them in the corner if you want to go watch them, and they'll also be in the description as well. But just seeing The Life of a Showgirl being thrust back into the spotlight, I was like, “Oh no. Oh no. Here we go again.”

I thought that I was safe. I thought that we had made it out of the woods, but it was time.

And I think, listening to The Encore, nothing will ever compare to the experience of hearing “Cleveland” for the first time and just knowing, like, “Oh, people are not going to like this.”

Here's the thing about “Cleveland”: I like it. You know what? I'll say it.

The thing with The Life of a Showgirl is that when she said, like, “peek behind the curtain,” when she was, like, initially teasing the album, I think people thought it was going to be like, uh, The Tortured Poets Department, but it's really a peek behind the curtain in terms of who Taylor Swift is in, like, a Lover kind of way.

Like, Taylor Swift, she loves her cats. Like, she's a millennial, and we need to just let her be a millennial optimist.

And when you listen to “Cleveland” through that lens and you're just like, “I'm going to let go of any sort of shame. I'm just gonna let this song be what it wants to be. And I'm just going to listen to it with the kind of whimsy of, like, a teenager dancing in their bedroom after getting their first kiss,” you have to just come at it through this lens of, like, “I'm just letting myself have fun, and I'm not taking things too seriously, even though I'm in the spotlight, and I'm just letting myself be.”

And I think The Life of a Showgirl, it's beautiful for that reason.

Even just this album artwork is crazy. Everything about this album is just so funny. It just brings a smile to my face every time I think about it. And it definitely is a top-five Taylor Swift album, I would say.

I need to do another video ranking my Taylor Swift albums, but I will do that very, very, very soon.

And to conclude, I just want to say that The Life of a Showgirl is an album that is very, very important to me. And I am proud to love it one year later. And this is an album that I am going to cherish for the rest of my life.

So, happy birthday to The Life of a Showgirl. What a special—what a special, special, special day it is for that reason.

So, that's all that I have for you guys today. Kind of a short video, but I just wanted to talk about The Life of a Showgirl, give you guys some thoughts about it, and just give you a little quick update.
